Beauty: Dr Sebagh Advanced anti-ageing facial

How does it work? With a client list that looks like a who's who of beautiful skin, French cosmetic surgeon Dr Sebagh has been performing cosmetic enhancements and skin treatments for more than 20 years. Products from his "cosmeceutical" skincare line are used in the advanced anti-ageing facial.

Unfortunately there's only one salon outside of London that offers it, fortunately for Edinburgh residents (and those who are prepared to travel) it's in the capital, at Aspen (and it's sister salon also in Edinburgh, Aspen North).

The facial follows the classic facial routine – cleanse, exfoliate and rejuvenate – aiming to recreate the natural moisturising factor found in young skin. Thanks to collaboration with an aromatherapist these highly scientific products smell rather good too. They include the Deep Exfoliating Mask – a favourite amongst beauty editors. Instead of granular exfoliation the mask uses a combination of azelaic and lactic acid to remove dead skin cells. It targets areas that need it and you'll feel a slight tingling sensation while it works away. The Calming Facial Rejuvenation Mask is made from a hydrogel and contains aloe vera and green tea. This is very cold so be prepared for a high chill factor. As the mask can be used up to six times you get to take it away with you for your own home spa treatment. Also included is the Serum Repair, Eye Expert and the Pure Vitamin C Powder Cream.

Apparently Dr Sebagh recognises the importance of a woman's dcollet and for that reason includes it, as well as the hands, in the exfoliating part of the treatment.

There's plenty of massage too, with the tension knots on my shoulders worked on, plus scalp and shoulder massage.

Don't worry if the facial leaves skin slightly red as you get a make-over with Lily Lolo organic mineral make-up.

Strip off or cover up? As with many facials this isn't limited to the face so for maximum comfort you're just as well to strip down to your pants. The couch is heated and there are plenty of towels for coverage.

Does it work? My skin looked the best it has all winter (unfortunately it's back to normal now). Even a couple of friends commented on how dewy it looked.

Who is it for? Any self-respecting beauty junkie simply must try this.

How much is it? 80 for 75 minutes. For the month of March when you book a course of five Dr Sebagh advanced anti-ageing facials at Aspen or Aspen North you get a sixth free, plus a Dr Sebagh Skincare kit worth 69. Readers should mention Spectrum when booking.
