THE sculptor who created the Kelpies has hailed the landmark as a “symbol for Scotland with global appeal”, on the landmark’s first birthday.

Andy Scott designed the two 30-metre equine sculptures which stand at The Helix, Falkirk, and weigh 300 tonnes each.

He said investment in the £5 million project had given “a boost to the country” and silenced “doubters” of public art. A celebration of the landmark is being held today, led by pipers, schoolchildren and two Clydesdale horses. Picture: HEMEDIA
