Tidy the trees

The Garioch Rangers lead an action day at Arnhall Moss today, from 10am-2pm. Volunteers will clear birch trees and pick up rubbish to create a habitat for butterflies. Meet at the tennis court car park, Arnhall Moss.

Run for life

There will be 5km and 10km runs around the grounds of Blairquhan Castle and surrounding Maybole area tomorrow. The races are fundraisers for Chest, Heart and Stroke Scotland. Nike goody bags, T-shirts, medals and a post-race massage are promised.

Six species of geese winter in Dumfries and Galloway, and the region's council has teamed up with NTS Threave at Kelton Mains, RSPB Mersehead and WWT Caerlaverock to promote a series of walks, talks and bus trips to see them during March. There are dusk, dawn and afternoon events running this weekend.
