Bodycote paints gloomy picture

ENGINEERING firm Bodycote International is cutting some 1,000 jobs overseas as it wrestles with a global downturn.

The Macclesfield-based firm, which specialises in heat treatments and metallurgical coatings, has been hit by a collapse in demand from car makers and construction firms.

The job cuts – at least 10 per cent of the workforce – emerged as Bodycote said it plunged into the red with pre-tax losses of 55.3 million last year, against a 60.3m profit in 2007.
