City scoops £4m prestigious conference deals

EDINBURGH has scooped four prestigious conference contracts worth around £4 million to the city. The international associations' meetings are expected to pull at least 4000 delegates to the Capital.

Included are the World Congress on Epidemiology (WCE) 2011. Edinburgh's staging of this event is the first time the WCE has granted hosting rights more than three years in advance.

The other events are scooped by the Edinburgh Convention Bureau Ltd are the International Conference on Composite Materials 2009, the International Conference of Developmental Biology 2009 and the 14th Biennial Congress of the European Society of Endodontology 2009.

Sue Stuart, chief executive at ECBL, said the value of event sales this year was already 26m - leaving it on target to beat last year's value of 37m.
