Wemyss develops accountancy link

SCOTTISH accountancy practice Johnston Carmichael has won the audit and tax work for Wemyss Development Company, one of the country's oldest family firms.

Wemyss, best known for its historic roots in coalmining, is also involved in farming, property and drinks, mostly overseas.

The company also produces a range of specialist spirits, namely vintage malt whiskies, Wemyss Malts and Darnley's View gin.

Jim Robertson, commercial director of Wemyss, said: "Our business is in good shape and we're looking forward to increasing our presence in the UK market for our new premier gin, Darnley's View."

Wemyss joins a list of family businesses represented by Johnston Carmichael including Baxters Foods, Walkers Shortbread, Deans of Huntly and Mackies.
