White elephant given a future

A MASSIVE industrial shed alongside the M90 near Dunfermline that has stood empty since the mid-1990s has been acquired by Newcastle based Shepherd Offshore Group.

Built by Korean firm Hyundai as part of a proposed 3 billion investment into Scotland it was taken over by Freescale Semiconductor in 2000 but was never brought into use. Other plans for what became known as Scotland's biggest white elephant also failed to come to fruition.

Tony Martin, of Fife Council, said: "This is great news. This site has lain empty for too long."

The main building is likely to be demolished, but the office block will be refurbished and let.
