Glasgow University principal to stay in post until 2019

THE principal of one of Scotland’s leading universities has had his appointment extended by another five years.

Professor Anton Muscatelli, principal and vice chancellor of Glasgow University, will now stay in post until September 2019.

David Ross, convener of the the university court, said: “The principal’s contract for an initial term of five years stipulated that there would be a review by no later than April 2013 in order to decide whether the term of appointment should be extended. The university court agreed earlier this year that as the Research Excellence Framework will run until 2013 it was in the best interests of the university that the review of the tenure of office should be carried out this year.”

“Having concluded this review the group unanimously recommended to court that the principal’s appointment should be extended to run until September 2019.”

Professor Muscatelli added: “I am extremely grateful to the university court for its strong message of support. It has been a pleasure to lead the University of Glasgow through the past three years, and I look forward to developing our exciting plans for the future and in confirming and extending the world class reputation that the University of Glasgow has for teaching, research and a superb student experience.”
