His former house lies in Scotland’s most expensive postcode, EH12, and a house in the same street sold for £4.8 million in the past five years.
The house is being marketed jointly by estate agents DJ Alexander and Savills for offers over £1,900,000.
The marketing material describes it as “an exceptional home offering spacious and flexible accommodation over two floors in a highly sought after private setting”.
The brochure adds: “It has an enviable, almost rural outlook over Murrayfield golf course and far-reaching views over the north of the city towards the Forth.
“There is a fitness suite comprising a swimming pool with shower room, a fitness room with dressing room and a plant room.
“Exceptional home with development potential and planning permission to create a 4000sq foot property in place of the current house, should one wish.”
In 2006, Sir David bought Scotland’s most expensive home in Barnton, Edinburgh, for £4.5m. He sold it ten months later for a £450,000 profit.
