9am Briefing: MP Anne Moffat slams 'vicious' Labour party members

EAST Lothian Labour MP Anne Moffat has attacked the "viciousness and vindictiveness" of local party members as she faces possible deselection.

Ms Moffat, who faces a vote on her future by local Labour party members, said she had been "bullied and intimidated" by activists, despite being too ill to attend meetings after suffering a brain haemorrhage.

The East Lothian Constituency Party has raised a series of complaints about her, alleging that she was not attending meetings and failing to campaign properly.

Anger over university cash

LECTURERS facing redundancy at the University of Edinburgh are angry that cash intended to help avoid funding cuts in departments is to be used for other purposes.

The university is expecting a 366,000 share of 3 million "transition funding" for teacher training faculties across the country, after the Scottish Government announced cuts in teacher training places.

It was intended to prevent education faculties losing their capacity to train teachers, but a leaked document reportedly reveals that university bosses plan to use the money elsewhere.
