Appeal over cafe decision

A CAFE owner has launched an appeal after being told to close his business down after changing it from a shop without permission.

In August 2009, a complaint was lodged with council planners about an unauthorised change of use of the shop at 67 Nicolson Street into a cafe.

Akil Aslam, owner of 10 In 10 In Delhi - previously Cafe Numedia - then submitted a retrospective planning application.

In a report into the application, planning officials said that if the plans were approved then 42 per cent of units in that part of the street would be non-retail, which breaches guidelines.

They said that the proposal would "adversely affect the vitality and viability of the defined retail centre".

Councillors on the City of Edinburgh Planning Local Review Body will come to a decision on September 29.
