Band night to raise cash for cancer unit

THE daughter of a woman recovering from ovarian cancer is hoping to repay the unit that treated her mum by staging a money-spinning band night.

Sue Young, 31, hopes to raise hundreds of pounds for the oncology unit at the Western General where her mother Margaret was treated following surgery at the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary last summer.

Margaret, 64, returns to the Western every three months for regular check-ups and her daughter cannot fault the treatment she received in the last year.

"They were fantastic," said Sue, originally from East Linton. "The compassion and support they offer to their patients on a day-to-day basis is amazing. We just wanted to give something back in return."

The mother-of-three approached East Lothian businesses for prizes for Saturday night's event.

Among the prizes available are bottles of fine wines, dinners for two at restaurants and weekend breaks at caravan parks.

Local band Roadhouse will headline the gig, which is being held at Pease Bay Caravan Park function suite. Doors open at 7:30pm. Tickets cost 10.
