Bogus caller fails in bid to enter home
The female caller told the pensioner that she was her new carer after turning up at the house in Dirleton Avenue, North Berwick, yesterday. It was only when the resident explained she was not expecting anyone that the bogus caller left.
Officers carried out door-to-door inquiries, and discovered the woman had approached other properties in the street.

A police spokesman said: “We are appealing for anyone who may recognise the description of the woman to contact us. We would always encourage people to ask for identification before granting someone new access to their house.”
Councillor Donald Grant, East Lothian Council’s spokesperson for health and social care, said: “East Lothian Council staff always carry and show identification when visiting clients. I would ask anyone who is at all concerned to immediately report such incidents.”
