Boost for first-time buyers

MORE first-time buyers took out mortgages in June than at any point in the previous 12 months, according to the latest figures from the Council of Mortgage Lenders.

A total of 18,100 loans were granted to those wanting to get their foot on the property ladder for the first time in loans worth 2.2 billion - while overall, 46,700 mortgages were issued for home buyers, totalling 6.7bn.

Experts said the upbeat trend was set to continue in the coming months.

The number of total UK sales was up 22 per cent in both volume and value from May, but down slightly on the same period last year.
