Cameras cut drivers' speed

NEARLY four out of ten speeding offenders said they no longer exceed the limit after being caught by speed cameras, a survey has found.

The independent survey, commissioned by the Scottish Safety Camera Programme, questioned 800 drivers from across the country, including Edinburgh.

It found that 91 per cent of the 800 respondents also said they were more aware of their speed on the roads as a result of the cameras.

When asked what makes drivers speed, almost half of the respondents said that they believed it was because they were either in a rush or impatient.

Jim Dale, director of the Scottish Safety Camera Programme, said: "We are encouraged by the results of this survey; it demonstrates that the public are supportive of safety cameras."
