City help for cancer centre

A CANCER support centre in Edinburgh has rushed to the aid of its equivalent in Glasgow after it was badly vandalised.

Staff at the Maggie's Centre at the Western General have provided support and equipment after the Glasgow base flooded when lead was stolen from the roof.

That resulted in heavy rainwater gushing into the centre at the Western Infirmary, damaging furniture, wallpaper and carpets, as well as causing problems to the electrics.

Glasgow centre head Gillian Hailstones said the Edinburgh centre had provided support, adding: "Approximately 30-40 people a day visit the centre to receive vital emotional and practical support and we are working to get the doors open."
