Community News: Jelly day set to wobble its way to city

Social media event organisers are holding their next Jelly event on Thursday September 30 and on Friday October 1 at eight venues across the city.

The casual working events, which have taken place in over 100 cities, bring workers together in people's homes, coffee shops or offices to do their day's work. The event starts at The Metling Pot on Thursday and ends with ping pong night at Screenworks.

Students plan workshop

South Central Neighbourhood Partnership and Edinburgh University Students Association are jointly organising a student-themed partnership event.

Part of the event, on October 28, will be a breakout workshop session to identify potential Community Grant Fund projects.

Hotel to bed in at office

A NEW 85-bedroom hotel is set to be created in a former lawyers' office on Queen Street.

Property firm Joint Properties Limited has been given the go ahead to convert the former offices of Morton Fraser Solicitors, near Hanover Street. They are still to say who will operate the building.

A CITY firm has set up a virtual "Farmers' Market" for Edinburgh and the Lothians.

The Greener Monday firm is offering foodies the chance to order quality local produce from its Facebook page and then have the produce delivered.

Author set to sign new book

Armistead Maupin is set to visit Waterstone's West End branch to sign copies of his new book. The Tales of the City author will be in Edinburgh to meet fans and sign copies of his latest book, Mary Ann In Autumn at Waterstone's west End on November 25, from 12.30pm.

Erskine Home veterans mark anniversary

VETERANS at the Erskine Edinburgh Home have marked the first birthday of its new expanded building with a celebration party.

The event was held exactly a year after the first resident moved into the Gilmerton care home.

Home manager Lynn Suttie was joined by one of the first residents to move into the 48-bed expansion, 90-year-old Joan Snodgrass, to cut the birthday cake.

Ms Suttie said: "We can't believe it has been a year since the Erskine Edinburgh Home expansion."

Employers use pedal power to obtain award

EIGHT organisations in the city have achieved Cycle-Friendly Employer status.

The national Cycle Friendly Employer award is presented to employers who promote cycling in the workplace.

Among those to receive the title recently were Malcolm Fraser Architects and Jewel & Esk College

Cycling Scotland has announced funding for all Cycle-Friendly Employers, offering 2000 workplace grants to promote cycling and interest-free loans for cycling infrastructure.
