Consultation begins on autism care

PLANS have been announced to improve the quality of care given to autism sufferers across the Lothians.

The Scottish Government strategy, which is now up for consultation from the public and voluntary organisations, sets out 26 recommendations.

Those include improving the quality of life of patients, involving young people more, and exploring therapeutic interventions.

Public health minister Shona Robison said: "We need to ensure individuals are included and truly integrated into society as valued citizens.

"To make this aspiration a reality means having access to personalised support in education, in social care, in health care, as well as in enabling individuals to contribute to the economy through employment.

"Our long-term vision needs a major shift in society's attitudes towards autism and this will only be achieved through partnership."
