Cousins win Lotto millions

TWO lucky cousins from the Capital are celebrating today after scooping a massive £2.5 million Lotto jackpot.

The pair were due to collect their life-changing winnings at a bash at the Macdonald Holyrood but later changed their minds about going public at the last minute.

They matched all six numbers at the weekend's Lotto draw to bag a whopping 2,497,823.

The winning numbers were 21, 20, 39, 04, 35 and 40 and the bonus number was 28.

An embarrassed public relations team had to tell the waiting media that the winners – who were supposed to talk about their plans for the future – pulled out at the last minute shortly before their 11am curtain call.

One PR insider said: "It's very frustrating. They only decided to pull out at the very last minute and asked that everyone respects their decision.

"They have now just completely decided to opt out of any publicity – we've only just found out."

"I'm not sure yet if they have even turned up."

Since it began in 1994, the National Lottery has made millionaires out of nine players from Edinburgh and the Lothians.

News of the Lottery win comes just three months after Musselburgh couple Brian Sharp and wife Ann celebrated a 2 million jackpot on the "hallowed" turf of Tynecastle Stadium.

Making the occasion even more unforgettable, Jambos manager Jim Jeffries and coach Billy Brown presented the Hearts-daft duo with their bumper cheque.

A spokesman for lottery firm Camelot said the lucky pair were not the only winners in Saturday night's draw, which was carried out with lotto machine Lancelot.

He said: "The Scots winners who won Saturday's Lotto Jackpot shared the 4.9 million total with one other lucky winner."

It was also a lucky night for 14 other ticket holders, who matched five numbers plus the bonus to take home 109,794, while 331 won 2,902 for five numbers.
