Crockart hits out over bank loan refusals

EDINBURGH West Lib Dem MP Mike Crockart has challenged Business Secretary Vince Cable over banks refusing to lend to small businesses.

He asked what steps the Government was taking to improve access to finance for small business and raised the case of an Edinburgh firm which was refused a loan because the small local supplier which it wanted to use was not on an approved list held by the bank.

He said: "With businesses still facing the most difficult economic climate in decades, we need to ensure that the Government does all it can to offer its support.

"I cannot understand why a bank, which has received significant help from the government, would fail to appreciate their role in supporting a small yet well-established business."
