Edinburgh round-up: Jump in the sack in aid of Comic Relief

COMPETITORS are invited to enter a charity sack race in aid of Comic Relief on Thursday.

Run by ethical drinks company Cafe Direct, participants will bounce to the finish line in a bid to raise much-needed cash for this year's Red Nose Day.

The retro event is open to all ages and will take place on a specially created track in the main hall of Sacred Heart Church on Lauriston Street.

New English language school opens

English language course specialist EAC will officially open a new language school in the Capital on Monday.

EAC's new George street school will have a capacity for more than 250 students.

Simon Gooch, EAC's managing director, said: "George Street is the perfect city location, offering students a comfortable environment and unbeatable views of Edinburgh Castle."

Bookings help mend hearts

Hotel Missoni Edinburgh is supporting the British Heart Foundation by donating 2 for every booking on Monday.

The charity's fundraising manager Jane Martin said: "A donation will be made to BHF Scotland to help fund its groundbreaking research."

Lothian buses re-routed

North Junction Street will be closed to northbound traffic for six weeks from Monday.

Diversions will be introduced on Lothian Buses services 10 and 34 heading towards Western Harbour and Ocean Terminal. Both will travel via Henderson Street, The Shore and Commercial Street.

A NEW 'lifestyle-shaping' company has been opened in Edinburgh by a trio of businesswomen.

The Lifestyle Company Scotland (TLC Scotland) is a new lifestyle management and concierge service, based on Union Street.

The team, known as Holly, Lucie and Celia all worked in the luxury lifestyle sector in London and are keen to bring the same service to the Capital.

They do anything from a house de-clutter to sourcing the latest "it" bags or throwing a children's birthday party.

Artist's grandson to talk of work

The grandson of artist August Sander is to give a talk to mark the opening of an exhibition of his grandfather's work.

Gerd Sander, who is an expert of his grandfather's work, will chat with Keith Hartley, chief curator at the Gallery of Modern Art, tomorrow from 2pm.
