Ex-BBC man fights council seat for Lib Dems

FORMER BBC political journalist John Knox is to stand for the Liberal Democrats in the council by-election in Liberton/Gilmerton ward.

The election follows the resignation of Labour's Ian Murray after he was elected MP for Edinburgh South at the general election in May.

Mr Knox, who retired recently after 27 years with the BBC and lives in The Inch, said: "I want to get more involved in the local community at the grassroots.

"I believe in the current economic climate it's important to protect public services for the most vulnerable in society.

"This is why I have decided to put myself forward for election.

Local Lib Dem councillor Conor Snowden said: "John would make an excellent addition to the Lib Dem team at the City Chambers."
