Ex-squaddie gets 5 years

A FORMER soldier who was the second-in-command of a drugs gang which flooded the Capital with cocaine has been jailed for five years and three months.

David Togher, 24, had earlier pleaded guilty to his role in the Inch-based gang, which was targeted by a massive police operation.

His supporters in the gallery reacted with delight when they learned he would not be receiving a harsher sentence.

The court heard that Togher avoided handling the drugs himself, managing a team of underlings who carried out the day-to-day trafficking.

The police operation seized more than 450,000 of cocaine over a six-month period.

Togher, from Danderhall Crescent, Danderhall, Midlothian, was only 18 when he was sent to southern Iraq in November 2003 for duties in Al Zubayr province and Basra.
