Ex-teacher raided bar for £3000

A FORMER teacher has been jailed for eight months for breaking into a Capital bar and stealing more than £3000.

Christopher Donaghy, 28, moved to Edinburgh from Belfast and got a job at the Granary at The Shore.

He had been working there for around two to three weeks when he stole a set of keys from his manager.

Fiscal depute Melanie Ward told Edinburgh Sheriff Court yesterday Donaghy was spotted on CCTV on October 14 last year trying to use the keys to get into the premises.

Donaghy, of Edinburgh Prison, admitted carrying out the offences.

Defence solicitor advocate Stuart Carson said: "Throughout his period at university his alcohol consumption appears to have become more and more problematic.

"He spent much of the money he had on alcohol.
