Family get behind charity bike ride

THE family of three-year-old girl who was diagnosed with a massive hole in her heart are backing a fundraising bid for the hospital that carried out her lifesaving surgery.

Melissa Mather, from Cramond, was just a few months old when she was transferred to The Royal Hospital for Sick Children at Yorkhill in Glasgow for surgery.

Her dad Scott has been raising money for the cardiac department at Yorkhill ever since.

He is now backing a bid by a group of bikers from Kwik Fit Insurance to raise thousands of pounds for a vital new cardiac machine.

KFI's business development director Stevie Sutherland and three colleagues will set off from the company's headquarters in Uddingston on 31 May on their Caledonian Bike Challenge – a 1,600-mile motorbike ride around the coastline of Scotland.

Scott said: "We hope the KFI bikers clock up as many donations as they do miles for what is an extremely worthy cause.

"When Melissa was diagnosed our world stopped but we were incredibly fortunate to have Yorkhill and those that work there, with the equipment they need, ready to help us."
