Flats plan to replace demolished houses

FOUR houses in Burdiehouse are to be demolished to make way for 28 flats.

Edenlaw Midlothian wants to replace the homes, on Burdiehouse Road and Burdiehouse Terrace, with flats that will be managed by housing association Home Group.

Two new blocks would be built on the site as well as an extra six parking spaces alongside the existing four spaces.

John Bury, the city council's head of planning, said: "The proposed development will add to the city's housing stock and will create a contemporary building on this 'gateway' site.

"The varied mass of the development utilises the slope of the site to relate to the scale of neighbouring buildings."

Mr Bury has recommended that the plans are approved, although councillors will make a final decision at a meeting tomorrow.
