Britain's overseas aid policy is to be refocused to concentrate efforts on women and children.
Officials estimate the changes, to be unveiled at the United Nations in New York next week, will mean that UK aid money will save the lives of at least 50,000 women in pregnancy and childbirth and save 250,000 newborn babies by 2015.
