A BUDGET apartment complex in Glasgow is to charge higher prices than the Ritz in London during the Commonwealth Games.

The Glasgow Central Budget Apartments, which usually cost as little as £40, are being advertised for £1,500 a night during this summer’s sporting event.

A one-bedroom apartment on Bath Street contains an open plan kitchen, dining and living area with a table and chairs, sofa, desk and flat-screen television.

In comparison, for £285 less – at £1,215 – visitors to the Ritz hotel can secure a deluxe suite with king or twin beds that includes a sitting room with views along Piccadilly, private and guest bathrooms and complementary chocolates, fruit and champagne on arrival.

But Stephen McMillan, who manages the apartments, said they were in a prime location and worth it during the Games.

Expedia offers the Holiday Inn Glasgow Airport for £311 during the event, compared with £57 for next week, while the Max Serviced Apartments in Bath Street can be secured for £676 on 23 July but £77 next Wednesday.

Hotels.com includes the Glasgow Central Clock Tower Suites for £350 on 23 July but £55 next week, while Premier Inn features rooms for £29 before and after the Commonwealth Games in July and August, but charges £159 during the event.
