'Huge potential' for Scottish MND register

A £200,000 register of patients with a devastating neurological condition is being set up in Scotland to help improve research and monitor NHS care.

Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Scotland said it was now recruiting volunteers for the register to help give an up-to-date picture of the disease and its effects in Scotland.

It is hoped the new register, part of the Scottish Motor Neurone Disease Audit, Research and Trials (SMART) initiative, will provide new information on patients with MND which will attract more research into the disease by providing volunteers who are keen to take part in studies.

Professor Siddharthan Chandran, project co-leader from Edinburgh University said: "The register represents huge potential to support the Scottish and global effort to find a cure for this illness."
