FIREFIGHTERS are no strangers to call outs asking them to rescue cats, but three units from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service were called out yesterday to rescue a pensioner who had become stuck up a tree in the back garden of his home in the Aberdeenshire village of Insch.

Two fire units from Inverurie and one from Aberdeen were deployed to rescue the 70 year-old male pensioner yesterday afternoon after being called to the incident in the village’s Beechcroft Gardens.

A spokesman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We received a call at 3.10pm yesterday that a man was stuck up a tree. We used ladders to get him down from the tree. We had three units at the scene - two from Inverurie and one from Aberdeen.”
