Late Frank's fans try to get him to No 1

THE late Frank Sidebottom could make a return to the charts after fans launched a campaign to get him to No 1.

The man with the papier-mch head was created by Chris Sievey, who died of cancer last month after performing for more than a quarter of a century as his alter ego. Now a double A-side single has been released on iTunes, including his song Guess Who's Been On Match Of The Day?, with fans launching Twitter and Facebook campaigns to boost sales.

Sidebottom had numerous singles, often giving his own twist to well-known songs and playing them on a cheap electronic keyboard, but he failed to crack the top 40.

During an earlier career as frontman for the Freshies, he picked up lots of Radio 1 airplay for his single I'm In Love With The Girl On A Certain Manchester Megastore Checkout Desk. However, it reached only No 54.
