Murder accused tells jury of botched raid on dealer

A MAN accused of murder has told a jury how his victim pulled off his mask and called out his name after being stabbed during a bungled robbery in his home in Musselburgh.

Ross Hendry told the High Court in Perth that Denis Parker said: "Ross, please stop it", after being knifed in the chest - with the wound killing him later the same day.

Hendry, 37, said his knife had plunged into the drug dealer as the two men fell on to a sofa when a brawl broke out during the late night raid on Mr Parker's home.

He said: "I feel like it was an accident. It never happened as we expected it to happen. I never used any force. I was committing a robbery. We wanted drugs and money.

"The whole thing was haphazard. There wasn't any real solid plan. It just sort of happened," he said.

The court had already heard how Hendry had pulled a knife as he stormed into the flat - only for Mr Parker to pull out a sword.

Hendry admitted plotting with three others to raid the heroin dealer's home to steal money and drugs and the two safes he used.

Hendry, aka Ross Stewart, 37, of HMP Barlinnie, and James Henry, 36, of HMP Edinburgh, deny murdering Denis Parker on April 24 2010. The trial, before Lord Doherty, continues.
