And it seems luxury knitwear brand Pringle of Scotland only has room for one of them in its latest advertising campaign.

Oscar winner Tilda Swinton, the face of Pringle since 2009, has apparently been sidelined in that role by Freya Mavor, a 17-year-old from Edinburgh who appears in the new series of Channel 4 teen drama Skins.

Swinton, who lives in Nairn and won an Oscar in 2008 for the film Michael Clayton, has worked extensively with Pringle in the past 18 months.

But Mavor, who won her role on Skins after overhearing about the audition while on a bus, features in Pringle's spring/summer 2011 advertising campaign, shot by photographer Walter Pfeiffer.

A Pringle spokesman said: "What Pringle wanted to do this season was highlight burgeoning Scottish talent. Freya is Scottish, young and kind of unheard of at the moment and Pringle wanted to seize the opportunity to launch a new face.

"We're not ruling out Tilda in the future. It's just a move in a new direction for this season. The autumn/winter campaign is unconfirmed."

But Mary McGowne, fashion PR and founder of the Scottish Style Awards, said: "It is an audacious and quite risky tactic to adopt. There is a risk that, by having a young unknown brand ambassador, they will alienate a lot of their core, more mature consumers."
