Odeon bid deferred

a DECISION on the application to demolish the auditorium of the former Odeon on Clerk Street has been deferred for a further two weeks.

The controversial application for listed building consent was due to be considered two weeks ago by city planners, but was put off until tomorrow after the council received a letter from developer Duddingston House Properties (DHP) saying there were factual inaccuracies in the papers submitted by officers.

The firm's proposal to turn the site into a hotel had been recommended for refusal after attracting a large number of objections from local people who wanted to see the Art Deco interior preserved and brought back into use.

Now the decision has been deferred until June 8 as the council is still awaiting legal advice.
