Some 300 delegates from all parts of the country met in Glasgow on Saturday, and pledged support for the plan by passing the following resolution: “This Assembly resolves to institute a nationwide campaign in support of the proposals for Scottish self-government, and to take such steps as may appear necessary to demonstrate to the government that these proposals command the support of a majority of the people of Scotland.” To implement that decision the meeting remitted to a committee the task of making arrangements for the national campaign. Mr J M MacCormack, convener of the Assembly Committee, presided over a gathering which included representatives of local authorities, political parties, church organisations, industrial associations and many other bodies.
