DANNY Alexander yesterday attempted to out- manoeuvre the Conservatives by saying the Liberal Democrats would make raising the personal tax allowance to £12,500 a key demand in coalition negotiations after the next general election.

The Chief Secretary to the Treasury said that the economic recovery would not have happened without the Lib Dems, Alexander tried to steal the Tories’ thunder on a policy that figures in both parties believe could alleviate the cost of living crisis.
