GPs seem greedy

Given the parlous state of government finances and the sharp squeeze on private sector workers, the doctors’ obstinacy over still-generous pension arrangements (your report, 31 May) is inexcusable.

The BMA claims that the reforms are unfair in comparison with Whitehall high-fliers but the real comparison should be with their less well-paid colleagues in the NHS.

There is no legitimate grievance for doctors who remain the best-paid public servants and it is deplorable that their salaries have rocketed while their out-of-hours working has collapsed.

Even after the reforms their pensions are fabulous, and such naked self-interest at a time of widespread hardship is shameful and will damage their position in the public eye.
