Letter: Inferior debate

Professor Alice Brown (Letters, 5 March) makes a plea for "tackling gender inequality".

This is an interesting concept, since the word "gender" is essentially a grammatical term relating to words, not necessarily connected with biological sex. This term, like "gay" to describe homosexuals, who may, in fact, be quite dismal people, now appears to have become politically-correct jargon for feminists.

The origins of notions of female inferiority in infantile fantasy were exhaustively explored long ago in the psycho-analytical system of Sigmund Freud. Biological differences relate to function and have no bearing on notions of inferiority.
