Offensive songs

I note from your report (12 March) that a Rangers supporter has been convicted of an offence for singing The Billy Boys with its line “Up to our knees in Fenian blood”.

May I provide some advance intelligence to Police Scotland about a likely such offence to be committed next year?

Thousands of French rugby fans (and some Scots accomplices) will be at Murrayfield for the Six Nations contest between their two sides.

They will sing a song known as the Marseillaise which contains the lines “Qu’un sang impur, abreuve nos sillons”. I am reliably informed this means “Let an impure blood fill the furrows of our fields”.

A remarkably similar sentiment, and I am sure Police Scotland will be out in force to prevent this outrage.
