Progressive rot
The trouble is the Westminster clockwork is stuck. For example, there has been no progress on reform of the unelected House of Lords; no progress on the modernisation of the voting system; no progress on free tertiary education; and hardly any banking reform.
In Scotland we deserve a socialist party to take its part in our future development and, for a start, to support a Yes vote. What has happened to the principled Scottish Labour Party that brought about local authority voting reform despite that reducing its power?

The latest vituperative diatribe aimed at Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon by Brian Wilson is wrong on so many levels that I hardly know where to begin.
Firstly, I would wish to know the source of his claim that “40 per cent of those who voted for SNP are a lot less keen on independence”.
He goes on to state that people will “convert to the Nationalist cause” for the purpose of the referendum to “get what they want socially and economically”.
In my view, rational voters will vote in the best interests of their nation, regardless of which party is in power at the time of the referendum.
Support for a Yes vote in that referendum is increasing: witness the number of prominent names from other parties, academics and business leaders in Scotland who have recently been speaking out for independence.
Sinking to the level of name calling, such as likening Ms Sturgeon to a spider, only confirms how desperate unionists such as Mr Wilson are becoming.
In conclusion, if I were to address every nebulous point made by Mr Wilson I would probably need a column in The Scotsman myself, so I shall leave it there.
