Three Holyroods

Last year (Letters, 5 January, 2009) I wrote to The Scotsman with regard to the inaccurate and confusing use of the term "Holyrood" when referring to the Scottish Parliament. The Readers' Ombudsman, although disagreeing that there was confusion, did admit that there was ambiguity; and "although far from being an ideal solution, this newspaper would continue to use Holyrood as shorthand for Scottish Government".

With a recent headline (your report, 17 March) reading "Holyrood to play host to Her Majesty and His Holiness" (when referring to The Palace of Holyroodhouse); and the Farming page headlining with "Holyrood wants to link CAP cash with food in future" (referring to the Scottish Government), we now have three versions of Holyrood being used.

Surely it is time for The Scotsman to find alternative terminology.
