Tory origins

In English, "Tory" is a four letter word. In the Gaelic it is derived from, it has about eight letters, depending on whether Scottish or Irish Gaelic is used. "Toraiche" means "pursuer", often interpreted as "bandit" – which many may think appropriate. It seems apt that the parties which descend from the old Tory and Whig parties of empire are now in coalition. "Whiggamore" also has a Scottish derivation.
