Trident troubles
You report (6 February) that the Ministry of Defence warns that wind farms in the Firth of Clyde and along the west coast of Scotland could jeopardise and create havoc with sonar systems on Faslane’s deadly Trident nuclear submarines.
Not so long ago, a Faslane-based submarine rammed a French submarine, causing a lot of damage and a near catastrophe. In October 2010 HMS Astute ran aground in shallow waters near Broadford in the Isle of Skye and had to be salvaged by the Anglican Prince tug.
Prior to that another UK submarine crashed into rocks in The Minch, west of Uig on the Isle of Skye. Could the Cuillins in Skye be the next to be blamed for the malfunction of modern GPS navigation systems that can show the position of any vessel at sea within a few feet?
Maybe this is another sideways move by the MoD to claim control over the Scottish Crown Estates.
