Paddlesports fans are in for a treat under 'Canal Quarter' revamp plan

HARRISON Park is to benefit from a full refurbishment under a canal revamp plan.

City leaders are working with British Waterways Scotland and private developers to transform Edinburgh's 16 kilometres of canal, with a new marina, up to 30 public berths and a new 'Canal Village' area.

The canal quarter, between Harrison Park and Edinburgh Quay, will be promoted as a major new centre for canoeing, kayaking and other paddlesports.

However, it is not just the canalside area of the park that's set to benefit, with new plans unveiled for mature tree planting and new footpaths throughout the park.

A new three-metre wide path will be created from the canalside to West Bryson Road, which will be lined with new mature trees.

There will also be an improved access from Watson Crescent.
