Borders rail link moves earn backers
Transport minister Stewart Stevenson yesterday cut the first sod to allow building of the 295 million Borders rail link to get under way.
He said: "The Scottish Government has made clear its commitment to the Borders railway as a key part of our programme of investment – we are now delivering on that commitment.

Hide Ad"The railway will act as a catalyst for economic growth right across southern Scotland. It will also increase business development and housing opportunities across the region."
Colin Howden, of Transform Scotland, said: "The closure of the Waverley Route in 1969 was one of the worst disasters of the Beeching axe, so it is very welcome that the Scottish Government is now committed to putting the Borders back on the railway map."
