Top literary prize for debut novelist

A FIRST-TIME novelist has picked up a prestigious award for "a beautifully written book" inspired by the death of her mother-in-law.

Siti Brahmachari, from London, won the Waterstone's Children's Book Prize 2011 for her novel Artichoke Hearts.
