Tourist boost as Barcelona flights take off

PASSENGERS at Edinburgh Airport will once again be able to fly to Barcelona after a new route was launched to fill the hole left by the demise of Flyglobespan.

The new five-times-a-week service, which begins on 21 May, is being operated by Spanair.

Barcelona was one of the destinations lost with the collapse of Flyglobespan late last year.

Gordon Dewar, managing director of Edinburgh Airport, said: "It is only right that Edinburgh and Barcelona – both major European cities – have a direct link between them.

"I'm delighted that Spanair has identified the real business and tourism demand for such a service and I know that Edinburgh and Scotland will welcome this move."
