A 95-year-old man has died following a car crash in Dumfries and Galloway.

The one-vehicle crash happened on the A713 road near to the entrance leading to Grennan, Castle Douglas, on Tuesday at 3.40pm.

The man, from Castle Douglas, was freed from a green BMW and airlifted to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow where he later died.

The road was closed while police carried out an investigation.

The procurator fiscal has been informed.
