Pete Wishart mocked the Prime Minister over the fallout from The Sun’s report about the monarch voicing eurosceptic views. He suggested Mr Cameron could be sent to Buckingham Palace to indirectly ask the Queen, noting: “One purr for in, two purrs for out.” Mr Wishart’s joke follows the PM’s claim in 2014 that the monarch “purred down the line” when he informed her of the result of the Scottish independence referendum. The PM later apologised in person to the Queen for revealing her relief at the No vote. Speaking in the Commons, Mr Wishart said: “The big issue of the day is whether Her Majesty the Queen is a Brexiteer or not. “I’ve got an elegant solution about how we try and discover this. “We could perhaps despatch the Prime Minister to the palace to ask her indirectly - one purr for in, two purrs for out.” Commons Speaker John Bercow said: “You said what you said but for the benefit of the House, and particularly for the benefit of new members, can I just underline we don’t discuss the views of the monarch in this chamber.” Scottish heritage: for stories on Scotland’s people, places and history >>
