Uni protests over job risks

LECTURERS and students led protests at Edinburgh University buildings after all permanent staff at its education faculty received letters warning that they are at risk of redundancy.

Protests were held outside Moray House and at the University's George Square base.

The jobs threat is a result of a government cut in the number of teacher training places in Scotland to address high unemployment in the profession. As many as 12 posts could be axed by the end of July.
